Why choose The Baby Swim School?

I am a bilingual independent swimming instructor and teaching babies and children to swim is my passion. As an independent instructor I take the time to get to know each of my pupils and parents and strive to support you and your child on your swimming journey. By choosing The Baby Swim School you can take advantage of my years of expertise as well as establishing a point of contact with a dedicated swimming specialist who is always happy to help.

What can you tell me about your classes?

My classes are small friendly groups of parents or caregivers and babies or toddlers. I always aim to group together children of similar age and ability whilst keeping the class rota flexible. I understand that life with young children can be challenging, so if you can't make it to one week out of the term, don't worry! Just let me know and I'll make sure you don't miss out.

What qualifies me to teach your child to swim?

I have full STA (Swimming Teachers Association) teacher qualifications, specialising in baby and pre-school. I am also fully insured through the STA when teaching in the pool and have over 15 years' experience as a swimming instructor.

How do the lessons work?

My small, sociable classes are informal and relaxed with an emphasis on having lots of fun. From singing, splashing and water safety, my class format is built around a 40 week school term-time programme with definitive objectives. The aim is for your child to be able to swim as soon as they are physically able - around 3 to 4 years old.

How can babies swim underwater?

When babies are about to be submerged they have a reflex which stops water entering their lungs. My teaching techniques work with this natural reflex to regulate breathing and help give confidence and control.

What do I need to bring to the lessons?

For babies and toddlers who are not yet potty trained you will need a swimming nappy, a neoprene "happy nappy", and a wetsuit for your baby to wear on top of these two base layers. Read more about what to bring here...

Do we need to bring goggles or buoyancy aides?

No. You are however welcome to bring your own goggles as an adult if it helps you personally (don't worry if you forget to bring any, I always have a pair with me in the pool). Generally I do not recommend buoyancy aides or goggles for babies or toddlers attending any of my lessons. The earlier a child can swim without the need for aides the better their water confidence will be as they grow up, especially in situations when they might be in the water without any of these accessories!

Will I get the chance to meet other parents?

Absolutely! My classes are a great place to meet other new and experienced parents. From chatting in the changing room to poolside conversations, I've had many parents form lasting friendships over the years that have continued well beyond my swimming classes. There is a cafe on-site at Plas Menai which gives mums and dads the chance to go for a cuppa and a chat after lessons.
